Quick Catchup & My Latest Race Info

Hello website people,

Its been a while since my last update but to be honest, it’s been very much the same, I wouldn’t want to read the same thing over and over again so I thought I would save you all the pain 😊

A few things have happened since my last update so a very quick catchup for you on that;

The cyclocross season came to an end, after holding 2nd position for most of the series I was unable to compete at the final round due to Illness. Unfortunately, this meant I never completed enough rounds to qualify for the championship. For my first attempt at the series it was a great introduction just a shame I was plagued by Illness so I never really got to show my true form.

I’ve had a new mountain bike 😊 to save me using my race bike all the time my dad has built me the absolute weapon of bike for training/fun & general sends, I cannot wait to visit some bike parks and really see what this bike can do!

The past weekend was the Run and Rider winter classic, the first MTB race of 2020. It's always a great event and always an even better way to see if your hard work throughout the winter has been worthwhile. With my dad being “awesome” he didn’t want me to race the under 12 as he thought it would be a good opportunity to get a taste of what I will be racing full-time next year, so he entered me into the Under16’s. As this race doesn’t count for any championships it’s the perfect platform to try something different, test your fitness and generally test yourself in a friendly environment.

Myself and my mom popped up on Saturday afternoon and we had a good walk of the course, this would be my first time racing the full adult course, it looked good, wet and muddy just the way I like it.

Sunday morning, the weather was nice and sunny but my tummy had butterfly's, first time in a while for both! We headed to Tackeroo early, I got signed on and collected my race plate, I got ready and then I headed out to catch up with my friends before the start of the race.

At 9:15 we gathered in the holding pen and made our way to the start, no gridding at this event but I was on the 3rd row so it was fine.

The count down begun and we off we set, I pushed hard out the start but I was a little hesitant heading into the first turn, I lost a few places and dropped to about 6th or 7th but I remained calm and concentrated on what I needed to do.

As we came towards the first single track I made some quick passes and moved into about 5th place to give myself the best chance of catching up with the leading group, I got my head down and attacked the course, by the end of the first lap I had made my way into 4th with my sights set on 3rd.

Heading down the start/finish straight I grabbed a quick drink and got my head down again, I made the pass for 3rd and pushed to try and build a gap, I raced the course as hard as possible and held onto 3rd for three-quarters of the final lap but at this point, I just wasn’t used to racing this distance/time and my legs started to tire.

I crossed the finish line in 4th and I was super happy with my result, I never expected to finish in the top 5, racing against past national champions and girls 5 years older than myself I just never expected the result I got, I was really pleased with my result.

The next race will be round 1 of the Midlands XC championship at the awesome Dudmaston Woods, a venue I love.

So what have I been up to? granted it’s been a few weeks since my last update but being honest I’ve had a rough few weeks, after the last British Cycling Dev day, I went along to the WMCCL Race at Newport but I was so unwell I only completed half a lap and had to pull out, after a trip to the doctors I had a chest infection and this has taken me out of action for a few weeks.

Still not feeling great I raced at the WMCCL Race RD7, I tried hard but my chest was still hurting, I managed to come away with a 4th, way off the pace but points are points.

Fast forward and I’m feeling a little better, I had to skip the cyclocross this weekend as I was lucky enough to attend another British cycling development day and yet again it didn’t disappoint, super hard work but all worth it and as a bonus we got a few trips on the uplift so that was ace!

This past weekend I have been back to 100%, I’m back doing my training and working hard, at the weekend I raced at RD8 of the WMCCL at an awesome Christmas tree Farm. The weather has been rather wet the past couple of weeks but Sunday was sunny so that was a bonus but the track was super super wet. I did a few laps of practice and the track was awesome such a great layout, technical and hard work! I wanted/needed a good result this week and due to my chest infection I have really been struggling and as the championship continues I need to try to gain back a few points. As the Whistle blew I pushed really hard, I slotted into 2nd position and pushed, it was really hard work and lots of mistakes were made, at the finish I crossed the line still in 2nd, 1st had pulled a good gap and I was a good way ahead of 3rd. After my chest infection and the disappointing results I had prior to this event, I was really happy and it’s a great building block.
